Pellets are the most convenient and commonly used koi food, formulated to meet all nutritional needs. They come in floating and sinking varieties, with floating pellets preferred for observing feeding behavior and preventing overfeeding.
As a rule of thumb, a Koi over 4 inches (10cm) will be able to eat a 3mm pellet. A 6-inch (15cm) Koi will be able to eat a 4.5mm pellet and a 16-inch (40cm) Koi will be able to eat a 6mm pellet.
Pellets are typically made from a mixture of fish meal, plant proteins, vitamins, and minerals, and they can be floating or sinking pellets. Floating pellets are ideal for surface-dwelling fish while sinking pellets are better for bottom-feeders.
